I am an Oregonian raised in the Columbia River Gorge area where the sounds of nature and the East wind dominated my acoustic space as a child and facilitated my interest in sound, music, and eventually ecoacoustics and the field of acoustic-ecology.

Having completed a B.S. degree in Humanities Studies and Music Composition at Portland State College, I went on to earn a masters degree in Instructional Technology at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

I moved to Eugene in 1967 to join the faculty at the University of Oregon. I initially taught newer media and film study courses in the School of Architecture and Allied Arts and then moved to the College of Education to teach educational media, instructional design, and programs in audio design and multimedia production. Eventually I headed the Instructional Systems Technology Graduate program.

Having retired in 1998, I continue to find life busy. I serve on the Editorial Committee for Soundscape: The Journal of Acoustic Ecology. I am currently the secretary for the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology . I edit and publish the WFAE Newsletter.

I participate on the Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts Media Arts Committee and help develop film, video, and media art programming and workshops for the organization. I also serve on the DIVA Board of Directors.

I continue to write about media literacy education and acoustic-ecology and I enjoy photography and music composition in my spare time. A recent interest has been learning how to draw.
